Google updates can help explain changes in rankings and organic website traffic and ultimately improve search engine optimization.

A) Panda 4.2

Google announced what was most likely a Panda data refresh, saying that it could take months to fully roll out. The immediate impact was unclear, and there were no clear signs of a major algorithm update.

1) Google Panda Update: Everything We Know About Panda 4.2 (The SEM Post)

“This past weekend we began a Panda update that will roll out over the coming months,” said a Google spokesperson about Panda. “As you know, we’re always working to improve Google so search results are higher quality and more relevant for everyone and this is just one way we do that.”

2) Google Panda 4.2 Is Here (SEL)

Google tells Search Engine Land that it pushed out a Google Panda refresh this weekend. Many of you may not have noticed because this rollout is happening incredibly slowly. In fact, Google says the update can take months to fully roll out. That means that although the Panda algorithm is still site-wide, some of your Web pages might not see a change immediately.

B) The Quality Update

After many reports of large-scale ranking changes, originally dubbed "Phantom 2", Google acknowledged a core algorithm change impacting "quality signals". This update seems to have had a broad impact, but Google didn't reveal any specifics about the nature of the signals involved.

C) Mobile Update AKA "Mobilegeddon"

In a rare move, Google pre-announced an algorithm update, telling us that mobile rankings would differ for mobile-friendly sites starting on April 21st. The impact of this update was, in the short-term, much smaller than expected, and our data showed that algorithm flux peaked on April 22nd.

D) Unnamed Update

Multiple SERP-trackers and many webmasters reported major flux in Google SERPs. Speculation ranged from an e-commerce focused update to a mobile usability update. Google did not officially confirm an update.

1) Significant Google Search Algorithm Update Yesterday-

First reports of this change happened around yesterday morning where Pete Hall said, "Something happened in the UK overnight. Not really sure what to make of it - some verticals shifted quotes bit and others remain unchanged."But then as the day went on and as people checked their analytics for the day's results, other webmasters started to notice:

2) Google Brand-ecommerce “Update” causing fluctuations-

In the recent days the rumors of a new Google update went viral. Many webmasters have seen ranking fluctuations, but so far Google has not provided any detailed information. We had a look at the changes on search engine results pages, which mainly affect brands e-commerce and apparently mobile rankings. Both developments seem to not be completely rolled out yet and might not have a clear connection with each other.
